CLASS DESCRIPTIONS AND DANCE ATTIRE

If you are having difficulty selecting dance clothes your child is comfortable wearing for any reason, please reach out to the studio directly and we can come up with a plan. We understand accommodating sensory issues or other issues with clothing is essential to creating an inclusive and supportive environment.


 

Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop Dance Class is an energetic class that teaches the basics of hip hop dance while improving strength, coordination, and confidence. You'll enjoy a fun and supportive setting where skilled instructors will help you explore different hip hop styles, including street dance, popping, locking, and breaking. The class includes choreography, footwork, isolations, and freestyle techniques to stretch your skills and spark your creativity.
Attire: Wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement, and sneakers for foot support and protection. No outside shoes allowed.


Contemporary

Contemporary dance combines different dance styles and techniques, blending traditional and modern methods. Warm-up exercises help you build strength, flexibility, and alignment. You will explore various movement qualities, learning to switch between smooth and sharp actions. The class also emphasizes spatial awareness, encouraging you to engage with your surroundings.
Attire - Fitted tank top or a form-fitting t-shirt paired with leggings or dance shorts. It is important for dancers to wear clothing that showcases their body lines, enabling their movements to be clearly seen. Additionally, dancers often wear bare feet or half soles to provide optimal grip and flexibility.


Jazz

This fun class uses Broadway songs and current pop music. Kids will learn basic jazz moves like isolations, turns, leaps, and syncopated footwork, while improving strength, flexibility, and coordination. The class focuses on creativity and self-expression through exciting choreography.

Attire - For tops, opt for fitted tank tops or t-shirts that won't restrict arm movements. Pair them with form-fitting dance leggings or jazz pants that allow your instructor to see your body alignment. Avoid baggy clothing that can conceal proper technique. As for footwear, jazz shoes.


Creative Movement

Toddler dance

Students will be introduced to the use of body, energy, space, and time as well as encouraged to take direction from the instructor. These classes provide a platform for the youngest of dancers to express themselves, explore movement, and ignite a lifelong love of dance.
Each session is carefully designed to captivate the curious minds, nurture creativity, and instill a sense of rhythm and coordination. It's an environment where young dancers are encouraged to embrace their natural exuberance, unleashing their boundless energy through the magic of dance.
These dance classes provide a foundation for cognitive development, social interaction, and emotional expression. As they learn to follow instructions, mimic their peers, and take turns, these budding dancers cultivate valuable skills that extend far beyond the dance studio. Learning to work together, celebrate each other's accomplishments, and embrace their individuality fosters a sense of community and self-confidence, shaping their personalities for years to come.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is a unique style that combines the graceful technique of ballet with emotion of a song. It allows dancers to explore their artistic expression through fluid movements and heartfelt storytelling. The class aims to build a strong foundation in dance technique while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Attire - Leotard, tights with shorts or a skirt with bare feet or half soles. Also, an option to wear fitted tank top or a form-fitting t-shirt paired with leggings or dance shorts. It is important for dancers to wear clothing that showcases their body lines, enabling their movements to be clearly seen.


Ballet

This class will include classical ballet barre, across the floor, and center work. The focus is on proper alignment and muscle awareness while connecting terminology to the movement. For ages 7 and under, creative movement will be utilized to introduce young dancers to the world of ballet.

Attire - Leotard with tights and a ballet skirt or shorts allows for unrestricted movement and showcases their body alignment. Or a form-fitting t-shirt or tank top paired with dance shorts or leggings is suitable. Ballet shoes and hair neatly pulled back in a bun or secured away from the face, allowing for clear visibility and reducing distractions during class.



Acro

Acro dance blends the grace and precision of dance with the strength and flexibility of acrobatics. It is a captivating display of physicality, where performers effortlessly transition from fluid dance movements to tricks and flips, showcasing their agility and athleticism. Acro dancers showcase a wide array of skills such as handstands, partnering lifts, and contortion-like poses that require both physical discipline and artistic expression. Combining elements of dance, gymnastics, and acrobatics, acro dance pushes the boundaries of what the human body can achieve, captivating audiences with its seamless fusion of strength, grace, and sheer artistry.

Attire - Leotards, unitards, shorts, leggings with bare feet. No socks or tights on feet. Form-fitting garments keep dancers safe allowing unrestricted movement and flexibility. Hair accessories, such as headbands or scrunchies, keep the hair in place.


Tap

Our tap dance is included in our combo classes and provides an opportunity for children to develop their rhythm, coordination, and creativity. By executing various footwork patterns and syncopated rhythms, they will develop fine motor skills and body awareness.

Attire - Comfortable clothing including leggings, tank tops, and t-shirts or leotard with tights and shorts. Tap shoes for footwear but if your child has sensory issues, please let us know.



Breaking (Breakdance)

Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is a dynamic and electrifying form of urban dance that originated in the 1970s. Combining elements of acrobatics, athleticism, and rhythm, breaking is a mesmerizing display of physicality and creativity. Dancers, known as b-boys and b-girls, gracefully execute a wide array of intricate footwork, spins, jumps, and freezes, all synced perfectly to the beats of hip-hop music. Breaking embodies a vibrant culture of self-expression and individuality, where each dancer brings their unique style and personality to the floor. Attire - Comfortable clothing including pants, t-shirts and sneakers. No outside shoes.


Tap/Jazz/Ballet

Lyrical/Jazz

Our combination classes are a wonderful way to explore different styles of dance. Tap/Jazz/Ballet dance class students may wear ballet shoes and tap shoes. Lyrical/Jazz students may wear half soles or jazz shoes. Both classes can wear dance attire listed from any of the styles above. Please keep communication with your dance teacher as to which shoes are best for their class.
